So one topic that I frequently hear from my local friends is that when speaking with many native English speaking foreigners, be it at a personal setting or an office meeting, it is often difficult to finish stating a thought as very often they are interrupted. I think this interruption is unintentional and has to do with the fact that many native English speaking foreigners are almost genetically afraid of silences an feel a chivalrous duty to fill in any white spaces. As stated in my earlier article, Japanese people are not afraid of pauses in between their statements and if someone else squeezes into that space, they feel cut short. So, just one point of advice is to wait a good four seconds before making your statement. This may be excruciating at first but I promise you will get used to it.
